Hemp and its benefits are not new. In fact, it has a rich 10,000-year history. For years, cultivated and used in pottery in Taiwan, it went on to become a source of food for the Chinese and ultimately medicine. But, its value doesn’t stop there. Hemp was used in textiles, paper (did you know the first drafts of the American Constitution were on hemp paper?), rope, sails on ships, shoes—the list is long.
Often used as a source of nourishment and medicine, hemp fell out of favor for numerous reasons, which is unfortunate. You see, our bodies already contain cannabinoid receptors, which we produce on our own. This phenomenon was first discovered in a 2003 study published in the Journal of Neuroreport. It reported the first evidence that exercise of moderate intensity activates the endocannabinoid system. Further study by Ananya Mandal, MD, has shown that, “Cannabinoids exert their effects by interacting with cannabinoid receptors present on the surface of cells in different parts of the central nervous system.”
Located throughout the body and brain they regulate appetite, mood, pain and memory. These receptors are strengthened when we introduce CBD-infused products, which kick up our ability to process and use CBD for health benefits. For example, individuals prone to depression may be able to find relief with CBD because it hooks up with the already present receptors and increases the level of serotonin, known to moderate mood levels. Researchers are beginning to learn that is the case with other conditions as well.
More and more, we see the interest in CBD-infused products being scrutinized as potential medicine and food sources. As more states recognize the value of cannabinoids for chronic pain, epilepsy, depression, cancer and other debilitating diseases, hemp is again being grown and studied for its benefits. Plus, this versatile plant removes pollutants from the soil and doesn’t require chemical fertilizers and pesticides to grow abundantly. Seems like something should be growing, don’t you think?
Fortunately, CBD products, extracted from hemp as an oil, are available worldwide. So you can easily begin to reap the benefits of using CBD-infused products today. What’s holding you back?
