You may have noticed that we often combine CBD with coconut oil in our Lost Remedy products. There’s a good reason for that. Each on its own offers benefits to your health. Combined they rock.
Because I’ve talked at length about the health benefits of CBD, I won’t go into great detail, but here’s a short list of its value. It soothes nausea and vomiting, acts as an anti-oxidant to reduce free radicals that cause neurodegenerative disorders, works as an anti-inflammatory and antipsychotic, relieves anxiety and pain, and is thought to protect against certain cancers. I could go on, but I won’t.
Coconut oil is a powerhouse in its own right, and again, I’ll give you an abbreviated version or we’d be here all day. If you’d like to learn more, I’ve added links to help you find information.
First, coconut oil is a great moisturizer, particularly for its antioxidant properties. As a result, signs of aging, dermatitis, eczema and other skin conditions benefit without adverse side effects that occur with many over-the-counter medicines.
This one is important because it flies in the face of common belief. Coconut oil can help avoid heart disease. I know, coconut oil is high in saturated fat, which supposedly causes heart disease (there’s new information on that, but I won’t go into it now). However, the fat in coconut oil is metabolized differently. It contains about 50% lauric acid—a key ingredient in keeping the immune system strong—which can help prevent high cholesterol. It also contains medium chain fatty acids that we digest quickly and use as energy instead of storing it the way we do other fats.
Coconut oil has also been found to reduce inflammation and arthritis. Are you starting to see some parallels? If you’ve read previous blogs, you’ll recognize similar benefits to both CBD and coconut oil. No wonder we often combine them in our topical products.
Here’s a quick list of benefits of coconut oil, many of which are similar to CBD:
- Kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi
- Helps to regulate blood sugars
- Can be used as a mild sunscreen (SPF 4)
- Helps boost brain function
- Boosts metabolism
- Has anti-inflammatory properties
So, this quick primer can give you an idea of why CBD and coconut oil make such a dynamic duo.
