Canna, Honey?

Yep, it’s apparently a thing. A Frenchman has trained bees to make honey from cannabis. He calls it cannahoney. The trainer? A locksmith, and beekeeper, who goes by the nickname Nicholas Trainerbees. Of course.

He’s been training bees for about 20 years because he is passionate about all things nature, and honey is a natural and nutritious substance. So is cannabis. I’m sure you can make the connection. But, bees don’t actually gravitate toward cannabis to make honey, hence the training. He somehow convinced the bees to collect the resin from the marijuana plant and use it in the hive. What they do with it in the hive, he isn’t privy to, but the end result is cannahoney.

When asked why he thought making honey from cannabis was a good idea, Nicolas says, “For some time I had known about the health benefits of bee products such as honey, propolis, pollen, wax and royal jelly and also about the benefits of cannabis,” and so he decided to take a chance and see if he could make cannahoney. He believes humans can derive the many health benefits of CBD by eating the honey because as he points out “everything that goes through the bees is improved.”

All he had to do was train the bees to accept the resin and turn it into honey and voila. The flavor? He describes it as a nice floral, with color that varies based on which plant the bees take the resin from.

Do the bees (or you when you eat the honey) get high? No. The bees don’t get high because they don’t have cannabionoid receptors. Neither do we, because the THC is not present, which is the high-inducing component.

So, there you have it, a product that could be considered the first all-natural CBD edible.

Although the jury is out about whether the health benefits of cannabis are transfused to the honey, it’s a great idea, don’t you think?
